Research of mental health and trans people
The Youth Chances was a piece of research carried out by the Metro. It surveyed the experiences of LGBTQ young people in England and the commissioners and service providers responsible for the services they need The Metro Centre Limited, University of Greenwich, Ergo Consulting, January 2014. It considered LGBT young people’s lives. In terms of trans experience the report state that:
54% of trans respondents have sought medical help for depression or anxiety and 72% have self-harmed now or in the past.
This compares to 42% and 52% of the LGBQ+ sample and 29% and 35% of the hetero sexual non-trans sample respectively.
