Jay Stewart to step down as Gendered Intelligence CEO

After an incredible 17 years, Gendered Intelligence's CEO, Jay Stewart, will step down in June 2027.

Jay co-founded GI in 2008 and, after almost two decades, he will be moving on to develop exciting new projects.

Jay co-founded Gendered Intelligence in 2008 and has played a central role in shaping the organisation into one of the UK’s leading trans-led charities, supporting and advocating for trans, non-binary and gender exploring people across the country. Under his leadership,

Gendered Intelligence has grown from a small grassroots initiative into a nationally recognised organisation delivering youth and community services, professional education, policy advocacy, research and a significant contribution to the national conversation about trans rights. Jay received an MBE in 2014 in recognition of his services to the trans community.

 Jay said:

I feel enormously proud of what Gendered Intelligence has grown into over the past 18 years and of the incredible people who have helped shape it along the way. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to lead this organisation and to work alongside such committed staff, volunteers, young people, community members and partners.

Over the course of my tenure I have witnessed enormous change for trans people in the UK. There have been moments of hope and progress, but also periods of hostility, fear and profound challenge for our communities. Through all of this, I have continued to witness the extraordinary power of community: the dignity, creativity, courage and life-enhancing force that can emerge when people experience belonging, recognition and solidarity with one another. Despite everything, trans people continue to live, love, create, connect and rise. That has always been the deepest source of hope for me.

The time now feels right for me to pass the baton on; I'm keen to step into a new chapter and pursue other ideas and ambitions. I am excited to see Gendered Intelligence continue to flourish with new leadership at the helm.

We will be so sad to see him go, and wish him so much success in what comes next.

The Board of Trustees will oversee the recruitment process for the next Chief Executive over the coming year – watch this space for details.

Gendered Intelligence remains in a strong and stable position, and we’re looking forward to welcoming a new CEO who will build on our work improving trans lives.
