Trans Parents - South West
Trans Parents South West is a group for trans people, or those in the process of transitioning, who have children of any age and are based in the South West of England.
The group will provide a space for navigating the complexities of transitioning while parenting and accessing trans health care while maintaining caring responsibilities and parental relationships.
There is currently a lack of support and services for trans people who are parents, which leaves little in the way of guidance for negotiating the emotional, family, and practical difficulties which may arise.
The group is about mutual support and community around issues of coming out, helping your child understand your transition, making space for your child’s feelings, relations with co-parents and the parents of your children’s friends, and navigating school and other institutions which might impact your role as a parent.
Please note that this is not a group for cisgender parents of trans children.
Who can join?
- This group is for parents who need support specifically around transitioning and the impact on their relationship with their children
- If you have already medically transitioned and are waiting for NHS healthcare (rather than private), the group will not be for you
Trans Parents South West is part of our Waiting Well project, a service from Gendered Intelligence and LGBT Foundation to support trans and non-binary adults in South West England.
